IEEE Seattle Section wants to help UW IEEE Student Branch

After several busy years, 2008-2009 was quiet here. Several members of IEEE Seattle Section (~4000 engineers in all) have offered to help change that this year. However, we need traction = people who care. The first opportunity is to have a table on Wednesday Sept 30. Other opportunities in 2009-2010: 1. There will be an Extreme Programming contest this fall (Oct 24). 2. There will be a Micro Mouse Contest next winter (Engineers Fair). 3. There will be a Student Paper Contest next spring (date tbd). 4. There should be a Mentor Night with PSEC this fall or winter. 5.

2009-2010 Event Plans

So I was thinking while we all have plenty of free time, now would be the perfect time to bounce ideas off the wall about plans for UW IEEE and the coming year. I'll just give it a go and we can figure out the details as the summer progresses :)

So first off we need to identify what we really want UW IEEE to do as a club. It seems to me like there are two core foci:

• Building a real community with UW EE
• Providing career – oriented resources to UW EEs through the main IEEE’s resources (lots of untapped potential in there)

2009 Student Professional Awareness Conference (SPAC)

S-PACs are structured events where students listen to experienced engineers from diverse backgrounds discuss topics from the six critical categories.  Students have a chance to interact with the speakers, usually through a roundtable discussion[with food provided].  Typically, S-PACs are half a day, and involve two or three speakers.

Typically this is held in April. We can move it to later in the quarter if need be.
